Songs of the Week 2: March 22 – March 28

azad#5. Azad Right ft. Harry Hudson – If I Die

soundcloud.com/azadright

Was a toss up between 3-4 different songs for #5 this week. Went with Azad Right to keep the list a little more diverse. Any song that samples Kanye West is good times in my books.

jooris

#4. Royksopp – I Had This Thing (Joris Voorn Remix)

soundcloud.com/joris-voorn // soundcloud.com/royksopp

Little longer of  a song than I normally like, but this Joris Voorn remix of I Had This Thing is such a good, easy listen. Perfect for those late night drives when no one else is on the road but you.

christine#3. Christine and the Queens – The Loving Cup

soundcloud.com/christineandthequeens

Came across Christine and the Queens a month or two ago when their single Christine took over the blog world (and if you haven’t heard it, stop whatever you are doing and listen to it). The Loving Cup is just as captivating, just addicting and just as catchy…with a pretty good music video to boot.

kopps

#2. SPEAK – Gates (KOPPS Remix)

soundcloud.com/kopps // soundcloud.com/hearspeakhere

This one JUST missed the cutoff for last week, otherwise it would have been high on that list as well. I’m a sucker for chopped vocals or chopped beat, and I completely melted when it hit the 35 second mark of this remix by KOPPS. Doesn’t hurt having the awesome vocals from SPEAK either.

batts

#1. BATTS – Morals

soundcloud.com/battsofficial

The debut (as far as I know) from BATTS is another soft-sounding song that’s driven by gorgeous female vocals. It’s actually eerily similar to the tune by Aces that topped my list last week..perhaps a little more haunting, but just as excellent.

Songs of the Week 1: March 15 – March 21

The Knocks#5. Tove Lo – Not On Drugs (The Knocks Remix)

soundcloud.com/theknocks // soundcloud.com/tovelo

Pretty much everything The Knocks touch turns to gold. A longtime member of the top spot on my list of “must see” bands, they turn Tove Lo’s Not On Drugs into a pure goodness.

KCSB

#4. KeithCharles Spacebar – S.T.A.C.Y.

soundcloud.com/keithcharlesspacebar

Hadn’t come across KCSB until going through my blogroll this past week, and I was hooked to S.T.A.C.Y. from the moment the vocal-driven-beat started. I like to stick to soundcloud, but unfortunately all I had for this one was a youtube video. If you can, find yourself a pair of headphones and seek out a high quality version of this one… it’s worth it for that bass alone.

Noah Neiman

#3. Noah Neiman ft. Mike Schmid – Follow

soundcloud.com/noahneiman

Is it taboo to post radio rips? Normally I’d look past a song to find something else, but I can’t skip this one. That chorus is just too dance-worthy to pass up on. Who doesn’t love a good dance anthem?!

Deutsch Duke

#2. Deutsch Duke – Battleground

soundcloud.com/deutschduke

5 months in and Deutsch Duke has released 3 songs, the latest being my favourite. An easy listen, Battleground does just enough to keep me wanting to hit “play again”.

Aces

#1. Aces – Find Me Out

soundcloud.com/weareaces

This one came out of nowhere. After a first listen it stuck enough to make my rotation, but the more I listened the more entranced I was. Something about the soft lulls of that chorus and the gentle vocals just… just work. Already one of my favourite songs of the year.
