J. Cole – Love Yourz
J.Cole is one of my go-to hip hop artists. I’m always eagerly awaiting word of any new music coming out of his camp. And while there are a ton of songs from earlier in his career that I really dig, Love Yourz, off his most recent album 2014 Forest Hills Drive, has quickly ascended to top of my J.Cole favourites pile. While all the verses are on point, the second verse is where I think the song really shines. There’s an actual message here, there’s actual content worth taking in and understanding… but it’s also smooth as hell. His delivery is so goddamn good. Hip Hop traditionally has a pretty dark and violent undertone, so it’s really refreshing to hear the positivity out of this one.
