Songs of the Week 40: December 13-19

bibi bourelly#5. Bibi Bourelly – Ego

Do you like Alessia Cara’s Here? Well then, enjoy Bibi Bourelly’s Ego… because I’m not sure I’ve ever had two completely unrelated songs feel so similar. Gritty and emotionally driven tracks by two promising young artists.

fleurie#4. Fleurie – Sirens

Give this one a couple minutes to get going. It’s a slow starter, but really builds into a nice, brooding pop song. The strings really puts Sirens over the top for me (similar to warped lyrics, I’m a sucker for string accompaniment to any pop or rock song).

jacob-banks#3. Jacob Banks – Grace

Some bluesy-soul here, and another song that I think really sets itself apart halfway into the track once the piano starts up.

prince rama#2. Prince Rama – Bahia

When I first heard this song earlier this week, it only stood out to me as being kinda weird. It still is weird, but the more I’ve listened to it the catchier it’s become. Not sure how to classify it, nor am I quite sure who to compare these two young ladies too… but I’m glad I gave this one a third and fourth listen before rendering judgement.

rhythm district#1. Rhythm District Feat Jessy Allen – Temperatures

An easy choice this week for the #1 spot. Nothing has had me dancing more than the sassy-sounding Temperatures from Rhythm District. That chorus is terrific, and there is perhaps no better song right now on my playlist for a little casual dancing. This is the perfect song for that background track at your little dinner party when you want to secretly bust a move on your way back to the kitchen for a refreshment.
