Songs of the Week 112: May 7 – May 13

tony romera#5. Tony Romera – Feel

I don’t typically go for futuristic-sounding electro like this. And frankly, I’m not too into the harsher verses. Yet, something keeps drawing me into this track. It’s got some serious groove when it’s not trying to bleed your ears dry.

hotel garuda#4. Lorde – Green Light (Hotel Garuda Remix) //

Lorde’s Green Light is one of my favorite releases of 2017. Hotel Garuda give us a great reason to revisit the single with their slight rework that kinda evens the track out a bit (whereas the original has a lot of really high highs and low lows).

oliver tank#3. Oliver Tank – High With You

This one takes a while to get going, but honestly I love the whole journey. It’s a slow track, but the repetition towards the end is gorgeous. The entire song exudes serenity and peacefulness. Actually reminds me a bit of some of Beck’s stuff.

embrz#2. Embrz Feat. Meadowlark – Heartlines

Classic case of a track that I wasn’t too into on first listen, but then it burrowed itself into my brain and now it’s been at or near the top of my playlist all week. That chorus and all of it’s sappy poppiness gets me every single time. It’s a “let’s go summer enjoy summer” type of song.

gents#1. Gents – Since Forever

Super impressed by the entire album Gents just released. It’s giving me some major Tesla Boy vibes. Since Forever is my fave track from About Time, but honestly the entire album is glorious. Go listen to it. Now.

Songs of the Week 111: April 30 – May 6

#5. Mating Ritual – Drunk

Not since Hum Hum have I circled back to see what Mating Ritual has been up to. Welp, good timing as he just released Drunk, which is frankly just plain cool. Part pysch rock, part alt pop… and very enjoyable.

maths time joy#4. Maths Time Joy x Charlz – About Last Night //

Little bedroom music courtesy of Maths Time Joy and the lovely vocals of Charlz.

gorillaz#3. Gorillaz Feat. Rag’N’Bone Man, RAY BLK, Zebra Katz – The Apprentice

I think this track could really use a couple more people featured on it. Jokes aside, this was easily my favorite track from the long awaited Gorillaz album just released. Full of swagger and some catchy vocals.

vince clarke#2. Future Islands – Doves (Vince Clark Remix) //

Completely missed this cut of Doves by Vince Clarke (released over two years ago), which just happens to be of my mostest favorite Future Islands track. The Depeche Mode legend keeps the always noticeable vocals from Future Islands intact, and adds some very subtle bump to the killer song.

dynamique#1. Dynamique Feat. Damon Trueitt – Love Hatin’

After discovering the captivating Damon Trueitt a couple weeks ago, I promptly went to go find everything I could that he had been a part of. One such track was Love Hatin by Dynamique (which just so happens to be a pretty new release). Love the bluesy grooves that would be equally at home in some posh downtown NYC lounge.
