Songs of the Week 121: July 9 – July 15

cut copy#5. Cut Copy – Airborne

The boys are back!! Man I miss Cut Copy. One of the very first “I know about these guys before everyone else does” shows I ever went too (yea claiming my hipster points here) was Cut Copy playing in Vancouver. It was a glorious show. Their first single in what seems like decades is chalk full of groovy vibes.

mstr rogers#4. Mstr Rogers Feat. Aanysa  – Don’t You Think

Usually I’m all about chorus’ and hooks. This one though has got me with some slick verses that have that nice festival feel (not that I’m one for festivals… I’m more of an intimate venue kinda guy…).

moon boots#3. Moon Boots Feat. Nic Hanson – Keep The Faith

Another groovy summer jam, but this time it’s not Cut Copy but instead Moon Boots. Been a fan of theirs sings I had the pleasure of hearing Don’t Ask Why, and while this one isn’t quite as ear-pleasing to me as that one was… it’s still silky smooth.

horrorshow#2. Horrorshow – Eat The Cake

The catchiest of the catchy. I just love Aussie rap, and Horrorshow’s Eat The Cake perfectly showcases why. It’s not in your face full of guns, fancy cars and coarse language. It’s clever, catchy and singable with a great chorus. Gangster rap has it’s place no doubt, but frankly a lot of new acts in the scene try way too hard to be hardcore. Can’t we all just be nice and make good music?

ldru#1. LDRU Feat. Boi – Me

Those vocals tho. The raspy, sexy voice of Boi really carries this track and has had me grooving for the past few weeks (yeah I’m working through a backlog of tunes… a few weeks ago the slump-dam finally burst and a bounty of great new music was unearthed). That said, the piano is subtly sexy as well.
