Songs of the Week 153: February 18 – February 24

ralph#5. Ralph Feat. Industries – Screenplay (Refix)

soundcloud.com/songsbyralph

Is there a difference between a remix and a refix? Whatever the answer is, digging the verse Industries throws in on this refix to Ralph’s Screenplay. Witty, catchy and sassy.

la pore#4. La Pore – Missing It

soundcloud.com/la-pore-294922178

This has really grown on me in over the last week. So much so that it’s made the cut after missing out originally.

khalid#3. Khalid – 8teen

soundcloud.com/thegreatkhalid

I’m admittedly not the biggest Khalid fan, but I gotta give the guy credit for being able to create some damn catchy pop/hip hop. Super late on this one, but re-visited his album from last year and somehow totally passed over 8teen on the first go.

thutmose#2. Thutmose Feat. Alex Mali – Karma

soundcloud.com/thutmose

I’ve been following Thutmose closely since he burst onto the scene. Until Karma, there hadn’t been a song that really grabbed me but I could sense he was gonna be something special. Had that sound of a seasoned vet despite being relatively new to the game.

peter lyons#1. Strong Asian Mothers – Hard To Find (Peter Lyons Remix)

soundcloud.com/strongasianmothers // soundcloud.com/peterlyonsmusic

Love love love the heavy distorted bass and the slight twist that Peter Lyons adds to the greatly Strong Asian Mothers track Hard to Find. The original is wonderful in it’s own right, but think that Peter Lyons takes it to a whole new level.

Songs of the Week 152: February 11 – February 17

vodi#5. Vodi – Pressure

soundcloud.com/user-827914278

This song never quite lives up to the first 45 seconds. It’s a lovely tune no doubt (in fact their entire recent album is a glorious listen). But man, those first 30-45 seconds are soft rock bliss.

sophia bel#4. Sophia Bel – When The Sun Is Good

soundcloud.com/sophiabelmusic

Catchy pop that would be perfectly at home in an upscale piano bar type environment. Swagger abounds here.

lcaw#3. L C A W Feat. Sophie Ellis-Bextor – Hummingbird

soundcloud.com/l-c-a-w

I want to like this so much more than I do. Seems to tease me with every listen with the “this is what I could have been” kinda sound. I’m a harsh critic, so that sounds like I’m not a fan which couldn’t be farther than the truth. Great track. Wanted it to be even greater.

the wombats#2. The Wombats – Cheetah Tongue

soundcloud.com/thewombats

These guys should totally play a show with Two Door Cinema Club. What a dance rock party that would be. Haven’t actually had a chance to listen to the new album yet, but I had heard the single a few weeks back and absolutely adore it. Wanted to wait until the album release before sharing. So good.

loyals

#1. Loyals – Hold On

smarturl.it/LOYALS

Another track I’ve been waiting to share until the album was released (and again, have yet to listen). Just been playing this guy on repeat for the past two weeks. Can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that has me coming back again and again.
