Songs of the Week 162: May 6 – May 12

brain tan#5. Brain Tan – Comfort Object

Half shoegaze, half surf pop. Brain tan’s entire recent EP is a chilled-out adventure and ridiculously good.

twin shadow#4. Twin Shadow – When You’re Wrong

soundcloud.com/twin-shadow

A veteran of the blog, Twin Shadow returns with another dramatic track. While he’s got a signature sound, each track still comes across sounding unique as hell.

jay summer#3. Jay Summer – Look The Part

soundcloud.com/jaysummr

Came across Jay Summer a few weeks ago and loved a bunch of tracks, but somehow they never seem to stick in my mind enough to crack the weekly top 5. Not that they aren’t great (cause they are), but for whatever reason it’s not sticky. It’s just solid soft rock pop.

james gillespie#2. James Gillespie – Dead In The Water

Been a while since I featured James Gillespie. Loving the grumbling, husky new trackĀ Dead In The Water.

studio dad#1. Studio_Dad Feat. Fat Tony & Wade08 – Too Turnt

soundcloud.com/studio_dad

There was no way this wasn’t making top spot. Even if it’s going to grow tiresome fast, something about the name “Studio Dad” and the track titled “Too Turnt” requires some airtime. And honestly, it’s got some legit catch to it.

Songs of the Week 161: April 29 – May 5

so much light#5. So Much Light – Waiting For The Moment

soundcloud.com/so_much_light/waiting-for-the-moment

For someone with this kind of sound and this many Soundcloud tracks to his name, I’m surprised I hadn’t come across So Much Light before. Better than late than never I guess!

vineyard cries#4. Vineyard Cries – Wolf

soundcloud.com/user-592693430

Just spent the last 45 minutes trying to figure out which band from the 80s this track reminded me of (I have a song on my playlist that could be this song’s sister track). Alas, it cannot be found. Doesn’t help that I have the memory of a 2 year old.

bearson#3. Bearson Feat. Ashe – Get Lost

soundcloud.com/bearsonmusic

Bearson tracks have a way of slow-burning their way into my list of favorites. Each track seems to take 3-4 play throughs before I’m completely hooked.

ben khan#2. Ben Khan – 2000 Angels

soundcloud.com/benkhan

Despite posting 5 tracks a week and listening to hundreds of new tracks a month, I don’t actually follow that many Soundcloud artists. I’m a singles guy. It takes a lot of me to wanna hear each and every release from an artist. Ben Khan is one of the few that’s made it onto my follow list. Totally dig his unique sound.

couros#1. Couros – Young

soundcloud.com/couros

Don’t know how to describe this one. It’s weird, but not. It’s poppy, but not. What I do know is that I’ve been hooked on both the track and Couros since I first heard Cir-cles last year.
