Songs of the Week 364: May 29 – June 4

#5. Boy & Bear – State of Flight

Got my tickets to a Boy & Bear show later this summer and I could NOT be more excited. Such a wholesome, feelgood band.

#4. Emmit Fenn – Crazy Like Me

This has been a hard week to handicap, with all the tracks kinda a mushy “#2-#4” range feel. That said, Emmit Fenn has built into one of those “must see” acts for me when I can next get the opportunity.

#3. Pressyes – Purpose

Wasn’t until I went to write up this week’s post that I realized the moniker here is “Press-Yes”. Clever, I guess? I dunno. But hey, tune is top stuff, especially ending 1 minute.

#2. Rxlph. – Resentment

Sounds so much like prime time 6lack! Love it.

#1. Lagoon Wavey – Highway

While the last dude was a 6lack clone, now we have a bit of a Ty Dolla $ign stand-in (I think? Maybe I’m messing up the comp, but there’s definitely a popular hip hop artist out there who could be a vocal clone of Lagoon Wavey).

Songs of the Week 251: January 19 – January 26

binki-heybb#5. Binki – Heybb!

Another funky & absurdly unique track from binki.

boy & bear-vesuvius#4. Boy & Bear – Vesuvius

Lovely track. Loses points purely because I have the attention span of a squirrel and 6:00 minutes is just too long for me. But on the plus side, there are gorgeous strings.

kryptogram#3. Tame Impala – It Might Be Time (kryptogram Remix) //

If this doesn’t get those dancing juices flowing, you are a lost cause. What a groovy take on one of the stand-out hits from Tame Impala’s recent album.

final djs#2. Chris Isaak – Wicked Game (Final DJs Remix) //

Talk about cool takes… Final DJs turns one of the sexiest tracks ever completely inside out and creates a disco jam. That build up is phenomenal, and the pulsing synths… nice times.

HATT#1. HATT – Do The Right Thing

With each listen I come to like this track more and more. There’s something about the echoed vocals and that layered chorus that is captivating. Kitsune really knows how to pick em.
