Songs of the Week 209: March 31 – April 6

the knocks#5. Blu DeTiger – Mad Love (The Knocks Remix)

soundcloud.com/theknocks // soundcloud.com/bludetiger

Already a revisit of Mad Love, courtesy of The Knocks. I actually don’t even really like this cut that much EXCEPT the hook before chorus. Ugh. It’s addictive.

lpx#4. LPX – Falling To Fall

soundcloud.com/iamlpx

LPX is one of those artists who puts out quality track after quality track. I also just learned she’s half of MS MR, so that’s a fun learn (knew her voice sounded familiar from somewhere…)

gena rose bruce#3. Gena Rose Bruce – The Way You Make Love

soundcloud.com/gena-bruce

Always refreshing to hear a new artist with a style that’s different. The smokey vocals of Gena Bruce to start of the track had me hooked immediately.

harrison brome#2. Harrison Brome – No More Love Songs

soundcloud.com/harrisonbrome/no-more-love-songs-1

Don’t be misled by the title – this is a total bedroom jam.

grimes#1. Grimes – Pretty Dark (Demo)

soundcloud.com/actuallygrimes

Grimes is one of those artists that is definitely not for everyone. I didn’t get it (and frankly I still don’t really understand what’s going on), but there’s something in Pretty Dark that has taken over my soul. I actually believe that’s her intention. Mind control through music.

Songs of the Week 178: August 26 – September 1

calvin harris#5. Calvin Harris Feat. Sam Smith – Promises

soundcloud.com/calvinharris

This is fully a song I expect to be utterly sick of within the year. But at the moment, it’s pretty damn tough to turn off.

lpx#4. LPX – Might Not Make It Home

soundcloud.com/iamlpx

Don’t often come across many pop anthems anymore. LPX’s Might Not Make It Home is cute personified in a song.

blood orange#3. Blood Orange Feat. Puff Daddy & Tei Shi – Hope

soundcloud.com/bloodorange

YUP. Puff Daddy. So good. First half of the song is definitely better than the latter half IMO. Really digging the crossover vocals between Tei Shi & Puff tho.

labrose#2. Labrose – Gravity

soundcloud.com/labrosemusic

There is so much here to like. The falsetto vocals. The range. The pace and chorus. It’s all kinda awkward, yet stunning.

sg lewis#1. S.G. Lewis Feat. AlunaGeorge – Hurting

soundcloud.com/sglewis

This came out of nowhere. Love S.G. Lewis. Love AlunaGeorge. Did not see a collab coming and boy does it work. The only gripe I have is that the best part is the last 30 seconds, which really should have been the true chorus. Not that the regular chorus is bad or anything… but that last bit…. well, it’s downright magical.
